Fiddler on the Roof, State High Thespians

  • State College Area High School Westerly Parkway State College, PA, 16801 United States (map)

Fiddler on the Roof is a Tony Award-winner for best musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters and other titles by Sholem Aleichem. When Tevye's eldest daughter, Tzeitel, begs him to let her marry a poor tailor rather than the middle-aged butcher that he has already chosen for her, Tevye must choose between his own daughter's happiness and those beloved traditions that keep the outside world at bay. Meanwhile, there are other forces at work in Anatevka, dangerous forces which threaten to destroy the very life he is trying to preserve.
