November 12: Dr. Matthew Trego, O.D. Please join us for this special meeting. One of Dr. Trego’s areas of specialization is macular degeneration, which so many of us are learning to live with. He will address the latest research and treatments in the field of macular degeneration.
December 10: CANCELLED!!! There will be NO MEETING in December.
Unfortunately, THERE WILL BE NO DECEMBER 2026 MEETING! Our meeting space at Mt.Nittany Residences will be under construction.
September 10: Audio-Described Fall Shows. The new year should really begin in September. Summer is over, the kids are back in school, AND it’s the beginning of theater season! At our September meeting Louise Victor will go over the fall season and everyone can sign up for the shows of their choice. There will be other opportunities to sign up, so no worries if you can’t attend this meeting.
The artworks in Plastic Entanglements invite us to contemplate the past, present, and future of plastic. Join us for a special event for the visually impaired at the Palmer Museum of Art as we explore this spectacular exhibit with special tactile presentations. Admission is free, reservations are not necessary, but notification to the SLSG office by phone (814-238-0132) or email (office@slsg.org) if you plan on attending would be appreciated.
Hearing loss and sight loss, two sensory losses that impact so many lives. There is lots of hope and help available and this meeting will connect you to that help. For our February meeting we join forces with the Hearing Loss Association of America, Central PA Chapter, to present an overview of services provided by the PA office of Vocational Rehabilitation. The ever-popular Master Gardeners will again be leading us through the colorful gardens of the PSU Arboretum, this time for the early summer blooms of June, and to tour some of the new installations. There is much to be explored in the limestone cave, kaleidoscopes, mushroom hollow, and more at the newly opened Childhood Gates Children's Garden. We will be leaving from the main parking area entrance at 10 am. The tour is free and open to all, but please notify the SLSG office by email at office@slsg.org or by phoning 814-238-0132 if you plan on attending.
Our May meeting is a special, joint meeting of the SLSG with the Hearing Loss Association of America Central PA. Dr.Elise Uhring, an audiologist, and Dr. Tracy Sepich, an optometrist, will present their work on this multidisciplinary program that helps people with challenges rooted in sensory processing.
